1890-1905

Art nouveau came before art deco and still fits within the time period that my collection of coins allows for.

1877-1926

Features of art nouveau- organic shapes and forms, non geometric shapes, delicate colours.

-structural architecture made to look more ornamental. not practical.

-glass used in many buildings.

Contrasts the geometric shapes and practicality of the art deco period. It could be suggested that art deco was a direct reaction to this period where nothing made here was practical, more ornamental.

Art nouveau tends to have lots of circles in their portraiture, which fortunately correlates to the coins which i have which are obviously circular and contain a portrait on the coins surface. However in contrast they display a much more structured forms on the metal because having organic shapes wouldn't really work in old metal casting.

I could consider emulating a queen Victoria portrait in nouveau style?
