The collection I acquired was a small group of very old one pence coins. Dating from 1877 to 1926. The thing that interests me most about this collection was the sheer age of each of these coins. And the thought of the many hands that theses must have been through over the years. With the eldest coin from 1877 being very smooth with the features of the metal work smoothed out over the years. being very hard to read and to see the monarch on the back. One of the ideas I could get from this is to explore the types of technology that was available back in these days. Seeing what, if any, kind of photography was available.

is a website that allows me to see key events that occurred In history in this year. This allowed me to see that in 1877 was the year in which the phonograph was first displayed to an audience. Which is a fascinating thing to think about when you consider how far technology has come and this coin has been here since this time and seen all the evolutions of human technology within this brief time period.

Similarly, as seen on the back of the coin. we can see this is from Victorias reign in the monarchy. Being declared empress of India in this year also.

comparatively on the latest date of 1926 we can find out on this website that this was the year our current queen was born (April 21). Showing the complete differences in history that would have been around at this time.

One of the things I wanted to try this project was the prospect of character design/ environment design and animation. So it may be a case that I do some research on clothing etc of the time and try and create a 3D character based on the years of these coins. or perhaps I focus on architecture from the time period and create and environment within the digital world. Perhaps using my new skills in photoshop to display my ideas, or premiere CC to record something atmospheric and related to this idea.

During a tutorial it was expressed that if I wanted to try something I should just go ahead and do it. So that may be something I try out of scheduled lesson time and bring in as supporting aspects of my work that I then post on my blog.

This is a website collection and explanation of clothing styles in the 1870s. It is a very small collection however does point out some styles of the period that is very useful. Long dresses and up do hair doo's were common in the women and thick cotton suits and facial hair was common in men. Photography wasn't a very available thing back in these times and so it was really only the rich that were photographed and so wouldn't be completely representative of the styles of the period.

Comparatively in the 1920s the style was very different.Women had much shorter clothing and wore hats. short hair and there was a very distinctive style to the way fashion was drawn and there was a distinct theme to what people wore.

This is likely due to the Art Deco movement that took place in this time period. This is a style I would definitely like to research! This can lead to options and styles and colours that would create something very visually interesting and compositionally would be great for the design of characters and environments.

Reflection:

Whilst I wanted to create an environment or characters I found that through my development of ideas and practical processes I wanted to explore different areas of design. Incorporating real world elements due to the physical nature of the collection that I have.
