Design week 5 Looking back to the last project, what differences in approach are beginning to emerge? Different levels of research/different types. We did more contextual product presentation research, than artist research in this project which was a big difference. However similarly to the week prior our initial task was the creation of a cardboard object, in this case it was to create a void. Which was interesting once we started creating other objects from it. Have you changed where you see yourself? See myself more design, media. I found information lead projects was better to do than the broad aspects of the fine art project we did. I like working to the brief more and found it a valuable tool in this project progression. Which skills developed from last week helped in this week? Research skills were useful in the production of this project. And understanding. The brief helped me as I followed it much more this time round than I did previously. How have new artist references been useful in helping you think about new approaches in your project? I did some research in the concept artist sergey kolesov and his work helped show me fluid character design. However my project ended up leading me towards more mechanical design due to the brief we were given. How have the practical and material elements of the work gone? How well have you kept notes? I found the practical elements went very well this time. I did some practical work with modelling clay and many drawings with annotations around them to ensure my project could move forward. So I could know what worked and didn’t work during the development of my design. I found myself being far more willing to go and create small maquettes in this project and would bear that I mind more for the next project. However the next project is media and I am unsure how many maquettes I could make for that, but take note of each stage is definitely a good technique that I have picked up and developed. What could you do better next week? More maquettes and more drawing to really help finalise these ideas.
