Media project week 7

Media week 7 Look back at the last projects and review any connections between ideas used in those projects that have also been developing here. Well for the art projects I used collage and such to create a board. At the time I did not enjoy it however I have found it a very valuable tool within this week in the creation of a piece of work during the analogue day. I found it very interesting to make a collage and then edit it digitally and in fact found it much more entertaining when I was able to do that than when I initially did it just with paper etc. Otherwise just methods of generating ideas have remained the same. Mind maps etc that help me lay down initial ideas such as listing the collections that I have and what I could do with them. What have been the main opportunities, challenges in developing the ideas and approaches in this week? Learning new programs does inhibit the ideas a little bit. When you don’t really know how to use a program to its full potential it limits the ideas that you think you can get away with. However it does give us brand new opportunities to create something we couldn’t before! Our lessons using programs such as adobe pro cc was helpful in understanding the editing process, and it was also quite fun. However I don’t know how far I would take filming and editing, especially with my collection of coins. Similarly before starting the week I hoped there would be more opportunity to test things such as animation, although there haven’t been. Our lessons have been more linearly lead and based on following instructions so that we do not become lost. Meaning experimenting more is out of the options. However the workshop weeks at coming up and I will try my hand in some of the animation workshops to get a real taste of it before I decide on pathway. Similarly I have been trying new things in my own time such as trying to 3D model on blender, which I think was fairly successful. Have you changed where you see yourself in terms of art/design/media? No I still feel more between design/ media and I have been really enjoying this media week. Which skills developed in previous weeks have been helpful in this week? Collage and research methods mainly. Have new artists references been helpful in helping you think of new approaches to the brief? I decided to research my own artists based on the collection I have, so really the lens provided are not helpful to me in following the brief. But I am using the ones I have collected to relate back to the brief. How have the practical and material elements of my work gone? Have you kept notes? I enjoyed the analogue day a lot and kept notes on my blog as to the the process that I have done to create my pieces on that day. What could you do better next week? Come up with a more definitive idea as to what my “final” thing in this project is going to be. Maybe do more research on the coins that I have, aka the key events that have happened in those years to give me a starting point for the creation of something fun and interesting.
