Progression week 9 Reflect. When I joined I thought I was going to join the illustration pathway no problems, I was convinced that was where I was going to go. However throughout this course I have decided that for where I want to go in the future (video game design) that the animation course would suit me much better and help me develop the skills I need for the future of employment and university placements. This also being confirmed with my parents as we went to de Montfort university open day and found that the games design course requires elements of animation in the portfolio and such. So the next step into the animation pathway is a logical one. Similarly I did as many animation and character design courses as I was able too during this week. And I love the animations ones even more than I thought I would. Especially the stop motion animation course. Which, again, fits I more with the future as I would need to work with 3D models and this is the traditional element of that. I feel many of the skills I have picked up during the course such as the art and design elements will help me in the creation of characters and environments in the future. As for illustration I feel as if that would be something I did for fun more so than a course I would take in future education as I feel that it’s not specialised enough for what I want to do. Potential courses Computer animation and design Animation Animation and design Computer games animation Animations and illustration If I do animation it could lead me into movie animations or lead me back to games animations, giving me much more opportunity for employment. Employment Working in animation could lead me to many small animation contracts where I could work on literally anything for any period of time. From children’s tv to advertisement, to working in the video games industry as a cutscenes animator or character designer.
