Art project review. The art project was based around the idea of chance. Starting with enlarging randomly selected objects and placing them in randomly assigned scenarios. The finishing with that Erin all project idea. I very much enjoyed the narrative project and is something I would like to do more of. Meaning it could have potentially lead me to Pursue the illustration pathway. Designing characters and putting them into a world was fun to do and the workshop we did around it where we learned to bind book was very helpful as well. In the final instance of the project my initial ideas were to create a mono print, illustration almost, and create it around the random words I had. Cat, chicken, artist. I enjoyed the mono print and thought that print came off rather effectively. However I don’t believe I planned the idea well enough and ended that part of the project with a result that I was not completely happy with. Then lead me to make a change and look into other things I could do with the print, optioning instead to create a children’s pattern with the theme of animals, using animals that begin with the letter C. Or close to it since I used a Corgi dog in one of the prints. I feel the initial design I did took me out of my comfort zone and pushed me to use more collage elements to my work, leading me to create something that was a bit too messy for my own liking. Meaning in the second part I moved back into my comfort zone with digital media. Creating something that I enjoyed a lot more. Allowing me to practise my digital illustration skills, and learn tiling techniques in photoshop. I’m not huge on the fine art mentality of how to work. I prefer something more brief lead, so perhaps I would enjoy the design project more, as starting with such a broad point and not having a particular audience or creation in mind is really hard for me to work to. Leading to the changing ideas and confused working. I need to consider audience more in the future as that was what was lacking at the beginning of this task. In the future I will be sure to thumbnail more ideas and take more time to create something. One of the reasons I went so quickly from thumb nailing to creation this time was that I was pushed by a tutor who wanted me to make the most out of the practical studio time we had. However I would have definitely preferred being left to fully plan more. However getting practical work done lead me to test ideas and see what worked and didn’t leading to a cleaner final product. In this topic we were also assigned a matchbox task, something which I thumb nailed ideas for in between my art project work. I really like this small project. The creations we will make will be charming in their size and being able to base it off of a random word located in a magazine was a good starting point. It was challenging creating things that were small enough to fit into the tiny box size however I feel that mine worked quite effectively with the theme of fantasy.
