Media project review

The project brief was assigning us the task of manipulation and editing. Something I was speculative of initially thinking we would be sat down to edit something long. However we were given many different workshop opportunities to try different techniques. My favourite of which ended up being the analogue workshop where I got to use traditional methods and mix it with digital elements, being something I carried forward to my final piece.

It seemed this project we had a lot less scheduled studio time than the previous projects, which I found bizarre considering we really could have done with more time being able to access some of the more delicate tools that we were not really allowed to take out of the room. Such as the Polaroid cameras. Polaroid cameras being something I didn't really get to use much of during these times as they had a long Que of people waiting to use them, and a limited amount of time to try them. So I decided to stick with the traditional mixing with the hand scanners.

This project has been interesting with the ability to use new and old technologies to create something fun and unique. It was fun learning how to use Polaroid cameras and the hand scanners. The hand scanners being something I especially enjoyed using. I loved the fact that you could manipulate the image even before you put it onto the computer just by simply moving the hand scanner during the scan. Mixing that with collage techniques I believe I created some fun patterns and such that would fit in the art Decor scene, and it lead me to the creation of my final piece for this project.

I also found myself enjoying the editing portion of the project too. Learning to use Adobe pro cc was more fun than I was expecting. Although it is something I did not continue developing during this project I would be happy to give movie editing another go. I suppose that fits in well since I will be heading down the film and animation pathway, where I am sure I will be using editing programs a lot more. So I better get used to them soon.

If I were to do this project again I would potentially create much more images. I had a lot of coins and I would have liked to be able to create and image for each of the years on the coins that I had. Then give those designs a context to belong in, whether it be in a gallery or share the advertising elements as my final piece.

Similarly I think I would try a lot more digital composition as sourcing the images from magazines can be hard and often very time consuming as the magazine may not have much of what you want at all. leading to a lot of waste from the creation of your piece.

Overall I found this the favourite of all the projects that we have done and would love to do more experimentation and learn more of the processes in the editing department.

As stated in the weekly review. If I were to do this again I would create a powerpoint to aid in my presentation of the piece.

However an improvement from last project was, that this time, I did have some of the small coins to hand out and show people during the presentation. Whilst not a maquette I felt it helped show what I was going for, And maybe made the presentation a little better for the people watching as they could see my really old coins.
