Vladimir Propp was a literary critic who founded the idea that there are certain characters that are to be used in all types of narrative structure.
He also suggested that fairy tales follow a certain narrative structure. Since our projects start with a piece of traditional fairy tale. His insight into how character is developed may help and influence my story.
Vladimir suggested these character types
The villain,
The donor,
The helper,
The Princess,
The hero,
The false hero.
Hardly any of these are character types I feel I will be using in my story, apart from the villain and the hero (I guess) though I guess since my story is based more off of real life events, perhaps these character types do not necessarily match up.
Since my story is about someone being sent away because of a war I don't really see the place for a 'Princess' Character. Meaning that my story after the rewrite really cant be considered a fairy tale in regards.
