Winsor McCay was an American cartoonist. Known most for his works on the comic strips little Nemo, and one of the first theatre animations called Gertie the dinosaur. Where Winsor McCay would interact with the character on screen whilst he stood on a stage.
The work on little nemo has inspired my project as in his comic strips he portrays a child character, Something I have to get lots of references for. In his stories it follows the little boy Nemo through his adventures through slumberland, where every comic strip he would encounter a new dream on his way to try and meet the princess of dream land, and every night before he could get to her he would wake up. Ending the strip.
Winsor McCay's comics are colourful. Painted in a watercolour style the colours are quite muted. Faded over time. However that would be the look I would want to go for. If I have the time I would like to emulate pieces of paper on the background, or cardboard. Something in which it makes it look like the characters are writing down what has happened to them. Much like the story of Ann Frank.

His comic strips are not particularly detailed. However they get the point across of the wakkey world in which Nemo is inhabiting. Meaning that minimalism may still be an option for my animatic.
