Animation has always fascinated me. I become engrossed in the fluid movements of creatures and characters across the screen, and the visual story telling elements. Video games are currently a huge part of my life and I find myself analysing the components of what goes into creating them as well as playing them.
Studying Foundation course at Arts University Bournemouth has allowed me to access new processes and materials and has served to prepare me for Higher Education in the future. During this course I have attended both timetabled and extra life drawing sessions where I feel I have made good progress in developing my drawing skills and understanding movement within reality. Within Animation pathway I have attended screening sessions where we watch various types of animation and film media and I have been exposed to the work of different animators. One of my favourite so far has been ‘Father and Daughter’ by Michaël Dudok de Wit for its use of silent story telling and simple line-work to convey a detailed story about a girl longing for her lost father.
Alongside Animation, I have always had a passion to improve my work independently with interests in Fine Art, Textiles and Illustration. These have all been beneficial to me since specialising in Animation on Foundation as I have recently worked in a team on a stop frame animation, creating a model
I also enjoyed theatrics and acting, I am part of a drama club and took a main role in a school production a few years ago; I find that animation is a great way to continue my love for acting by acting through my animations
In the past I have taken part in an online animation Mooc. Completing the course explore animation from the national film and television school. This gave me a glimpse into the world of animation and relelvant processes before enrolling on Foundation, it also cemented my love for stop motion and CG animation. Similarly this course also gave me insight into the production and workflow of many different animation sectors. From animating children’s television programs, to large scale movie productions and VFX and CGI in modern day advertisements. I am particularly interested in the works of Laika entertainment and the way they incorporate stop motion with modern day CGI; ‘Paranorman’ is a personal favourite. Similarly some of my favourite games companies such as Arkane studios and Project CD red create fantastic cut scene animations and character animations that always fit with the aesthetic of the games well and display characters thoughts an emotions visually, something I aspire to in the future. I feel I am a highly motivated person and continuously strive for improvement. I enjoy working as part of a team or individually and feel I can blend into any role within a group task well. I used to do a lot of sport and played as part of Dorset county badminton. I am an organised individual and like to ensure that all tasks are
organised within a work flow to ensure that everything can run smoothly for me and my team. I have been described as conscientious and thoughtful in my approach to pieces of work and feel I can develop this approach further to my degree course.
